Occupational trainers are the skilled practitioners who deliver hands-on, practical training to workers in specific occupational contexts — on the shop floor, in the field, in the workshop, or in any environment where skills need to be developed in direct connection with the work being performed. The Occupational Trainer qualification at NQF Level 4 is designed for professionals who are subject matter experts in their own occupational field and want to formalise their ability to transfer that expertise to others through structured, effective training.
The qualification develops the core competencies of occupational training practice: understanding adult learning principles and how they apply in occupational training contexts, planning and preparing structured training sessions, facilitating practical skills demonstration and guided practice, providing constructive feedback to learners, using a range of training methodologies appropriate to the occupational context, assessing learner progress against defined competency standards, maintaining training records, and managing learning environments safely and effectively.
