The Plant Production qualification at NQF Level 2 builds on foundational agricultural skills to give learners the competence to participate actively in crop and vegetable production environments with growing independence. At this level, you are expected to understand not just what to do but why — why certain soils require amendment before planting, why irrigation schedules matter, and why pest and disease management is critical to protecting yield and quality.
This qualification is designed for learners who are either progressing from NQF Level 1 or entering the sector with some informal farming experience and basic literacy and numeracy. It covers core plant production competencies including soil preparation and amendment, seed selection and planting, basic irrigation management, fertiliser application, pest identification, and harvesting techniques. The emphasis throughout is on building sound practical habits that result in healthy crops and productive farming outcomes.
